The gospel of the kingdom was not a concept Jesus favored. Most earthly kingdoms were despotic, ruled by a despot king who maintained his reign through a system of rewards and punishments. But the expectations of his Jewish brethren were so firmly grounded in the restoration of the throne of David in Jerusalem that Jesus found it impossible to do other than attempt to modify those expectations. So what were these new ideas? Succinctly stated Jesus' preached the gospel of the kingdom is the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.
